even though area of Cross section is inversely proportional to drift velocity, why the drift velocity remain unchanged when the diameter of a conductor is doubled?

the drift velocity remains same because you may double the diameter but you cannot change the positions of the nucleus of the conductor material. thus they restrict the drift and no change in the drift velocity is observed.
