Even though each pollen has two male gametes, 20 pollen are required to fertilize 20 ovlues. This is due to presence of double fertilization in angiosperms. For one zygote to form one male and one egg is required. The other male gamete fuses with polar nuclei and forms primary endosperm nucleus (PEN).
