Even today so many among us believe in superstitions. An astrologer predicted about ‘The Tiger King’ that he would be killed by a tiger. He ‘killed’ one hundred tigers yet was himself ‘killed’ by a tiger. How did the superstitious belief ‘prevail’?

Astrologers entice their clients with the vaguest possible predictions, so that even when a part of it comes true by chance, in the client's mind the entire prediction becomes valid. This is how, even today, astrologers thrive on people's predilection towards superstitions. In the case of the tiger-king, the astrologer had said that the king will be killed by the 100th tiger but did not mention the nature of the animal. The author here shows what destruction pride and superstition can bring about.
