Answer:

His office starts at 9:00 am.

Step-by-step explanation:

Sharad leaves his home for office every morning = 8:20 am

Let the distance between home to office = d km

Let the time taken by Sharad to reach the office = t min.

Given he travels at a speed of 10 km/hr, then he reaches his office late by 8 minutes.

=\frac{d}{10}=t+\frac{8}{60}

=\frac{d}{10}=t+\frac{2}{15}  -----------(1)

Given he travels at a speed of 16 km/hr, then he reaches his office early by 10 minutes.

=\frac{d}{16}=t-\frac{10}{60}

=\frac{d}{16}=t-\frac{1}{6}  ------------(2)

Solve equation (1) and (2)

=\frac{d}{10}- \frac{d}{16}=\frac{2}{15} + \frac{1}{6}

=\frac{3d}{80} =\frac{9}{30}

d=\frac{9\times80}{3\times 30}

d=\frac{720}{90}

d = 8 km. ------(3)

Now replace equation (3) in equation (2)

\frac{8}{16}=t-\frac{1}{6}

t-\frac{1}{6}=\frac{8}{16}

t-\frac{1}{6}=\frac{1}{2}

t=\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{6}

t=\frac{2}{3}  hours

convert hours to minutes

= \frac{2}{3}\times 60

= 40 minutes

Sharad starts at 8:20 am + 40 minutes = 9:00 am.

His office starts at 9:00 am.
