We know that every object that has a mass, exerts a force of attraction between them.
Since earth has a mass, it also exerts a force of attraction between every object above it.
This force of attraction is called as gravity.
Due to this gravity, the object is attracted towards earth surface and hence, falls downwards.
More to know:- The credit of discovery of Gravity is given to Sir Issac Newton.
Even though the concept of gravity has been explained by Indian scientist Bhaskaracharya in his book 'Leelavati'.
