Living our daily life, we just go about our tasks and react to things, thinking only about ourselves. There are times when we feel we are right in whatever we think and do. We may even be justified in thinking so on moral grounds. This is seen from our perspective.

But, there is always another side or even more to things. I give this instance as an example. A friend of mine likes to enjoy life. She was more playful taking everything light and generally had a happy countenance. She was very bright but started lagging behind in studies. She would want to go out and enjoy at the cost of studies. Being her friend I warned her and then moved off. I did hang around with her and her group of friends but I kept my limit.

It came to pass that she realised her folly and came to me for help. Imagine catching up on more than a month’s studies. Initially I was scornful and just passed on my notes and moved off. But she needed more than just notes! She needed a coach too!

I refused to help her out initially on the moral grounds that in spite of warning she opted to have her way at the cost of her studies. I acted high and mighty too! But eventually I gave in, as she was my friend and because I had some humanity in me.

There are things worse than skipping studies. Even when people do things you would not approve of, it is always better to look at things from their perspective to really understand them. Even if you felt, things were handled wrong! Who are we to judge anyone? Even we may have qualities others may not approve of!

Everybody is born unique. Every one of us has our own unique qualities. We stay in a society and always need each other. It is good to have healthy outlook and perspective on things. And above all, ‘Being Human’ is the most important of all the qualitied needed in us. Let us stay happy and cheerful and keep people around us joyful and gay too!

Human beings are  basically very good by birth. They change day by day according to their exposure to the society and the situation they are brought up.

Discovering real goodness comes from appreciating very simple experiences.  We experience glimpses of goodness all the time, but we often fail to acknowledge them. When we see a bright color, we are witnessing our own inherent goodness. When we hear a beautiful sound, we are hearing our own basic goodness. When we step out of the shower, we feel fresh and clean, and when we walk out of a stuffy room, we appreciate the sudden whiff of fresh air. These events take a fraction of a second, but they are real experiences of goodness.

If we are willing to take an unbiased look, we will find that, in spite of all our problems and confusion, all our emotional and psychological ups and downs, there is something basically good about our existence as human beings. We have moments of basic non-aggression and freshness…it is worthwhile to take advantage of these moment,we have an actual connection to reality that can wake us up and make us feel basically, fundamentally good.

Developing tenderness towards our self allows us to see both our problems and our potential accurately. we should not feel that we have to ignore our problems or exaggerate our potential. That kind of gentleness towards ourself and appreciation of ourself is very necessary. It provides the ground for helping ourself and others.

The way to begin is with ourselves. From being open and honest with ourselves, we can also learn to be open with others. So we can work with the rest of the world, on the basis of the goodness we discover in ourselves. Therefore, meditation practice is regarded as a good and and in fact excellent way to overcome warfare in the world: our own warfare as well as greater warfare.
