Every region has its own traditional customs and traditions which are upheld and preserved fiercely by the elders. Is it proper to uphold all of them or should society be selective in keeping and discarding some of them? Discuss in the light of the story of Morusa and Mehouviu.
Answers
Traditions and customs are created by man to maintain a disciplined and culture safe society.
- Not all traditions need to be preserved.
- The society is changing rapidly and so the traditions also need to be modified according to the present scenario.
- Elders need not be so strict in following all the traditions.
Morusa and Mehouviu.
For example in the story Morusa and Mehouviu, if the elders had allowed them to meet and discuss their lives, the fate of Mehouviu could have been prevented.
The elders could have allowed for ordinary courtship, then they would have known each other and Mehouviu would not have faced her death in Morusa's hands.
If the practice of exhibiting oneself as a warrior had not been followed, Morusa would have not taken the head of Mehouviu as a trophy.
These practices should be discarded as they do not promote the society rather destroy it.
