If there is a way to harness the oxygen we inhale, we could put it into a test tube, and insert a glowing splint. The test for oxygen is that the gas present in the test tube will relight a glowing splint.
We know we exhale carbon dioxide because if you exhaled into a tube that leads into a test tube of limewater, it would turn it cloudy as a precipitate of calcium carbonate forms in the reaction between co2 and limewater.
Hope that helps!
