The caste system highly dominated Indian society since the ancient ages. The obsession with the caste system gave rise to evils in Indian society. Originally the caste system was supposed to divide our community into particular groups or sections for the social stratification and a peaceful division of occupational fields. But later, this division formed a pyramidal structure where the highest caste was associated with getting the highest respect.What made this patriarchal system toxic was the strict adherence to traditions, customs, and certain beliefs like superstitions or reincarnation and the past life’s deeds. All this gave rise to torture and oppression against the lower castes like Dalits and the untouchables.But it was because of social reformers like Dr Ambedkar, Raja Rammohan Roy, and Mahatma Gandhi who aggressively fought for the rights of lower castes like ST, SC, and OBCs. In the times of technology and logic, our birth relations matter nothing compared to our potential,m qualities, and talent.But even after so much aggregation and development of society, there are still at times we find the caste system still taking a toll on people’s mindset. It is time to spread awareness, especially in the rural areas, to help people overcome this obsession with the caste system and stop any discrimination because of their caste by raising our voice against it.
