Eventually, the ray-responsive spot passed into a retina, the cover layer of cells and pigment at the back of the human eye. Over time a "lens formed" at the forepart of the eye.

Explanation:

  • Eye is an complicated organ which is evolved in organisms through numerous mutations in DNA bit over bit by generations
  • Hence there are organisms which have evolved an intermediate stage such as a "rudimentary eye for fitness advantage".
  • Another adaptation of eye is eye like the wing.
  • For example: Octopus and other vertebrates.
  • These all adaptations have different structures and different evolutionary relationships.
