The sporophyte of bryophytes is called sporogonium which geneally consits of a single, terminal sporangium with a bulbous foot and with or without an unbranched stalk or seta. The sporogommium is very delicate, shortlived and nutritionally dependent on its gametophyte.
The sporophytic phase begins with the formation of a diploid zygote within the venter of the archegonum. In the simpllest form of sporophyte the entire zygote is taking part in the formation of stelile capsule wall and the central sporogeeous cells. In complex forms, zygote differentiates and sporogenous cells form more steile tissues.

A sporophite also knwn as the saprophita is an heterotrophic organism
Saprophites get energy from dead and decaying matter .the dead matter can be dead plants leaves or roots and decayed pieces of animals
Saprophytes are not producers ,they are consumers in the food chain
Fungui are also saprophites that live in organisms .they are beneficial to the environment in that they are biological recyclers
