Ex-15. The electrons, identified by quantum numbers n and I
i.n= 4,1 = 1
ii. n = 4,1 = 0
iii. n = 3,1 = 2
iv. n = 3,1 = 1
can be placed in the order of increasing energy, from the lowest to
highest, as

This is done by the n+l rule

                          n+l

i.n= 4,1 = 1.            5

ii. n = 4,1 = 0.        4

iii. n = 3,1 = 2.        5

iv. n = 3,1 = 1.         4

As the n+l value of i and iii is the same the orbital having the higher n value will have higher energy

Hence i>iii

Similarly,ii>iv

The order is

iv<. ii<. iii. <i

I hope this helps ( ╹▽╹ )
