  1. Many students have stress & anxiety before & during tests. Test anxiety is however more serious & can in fact affect learning & impair ""test performance. Test anxiety is much more than nervousness before a test. For students struggling with test anxiety, some pre-examination nervousness becomes weakening senses of worry, anxiety , and fear that adversely impact performance.
  2. Test anxiety can quickly be discounted as something that only affects a pupil.Nevertheless, if left Unchecked , students can suffer from the impacts of test anxiety. Students who have difficulty with "test anxiety"usually fall below their peers just by "half a letter grade". Text anxiety can have a neglected mental health, such as lower self esteem,  motivation & confidence in addition to academic implications.

There are several reasons which leads to  test anxiety. They are

Situational Causes

  1. The "pressure" of "timed tests"
  2. "Intimidation" of taking tests in a "crowded classroom"
  3. A lack of preparedness/poor study skills
  4. A "stress history" associated with  test taking
  5. Lack of understanding of the material
  6. Previous "poor test performance"

Mental Causes

  1. Fear of low credentials
  2. A sense of controllessness
  3. Be afraid to let someone down (parents, teachers)
  4. Single assessments and examinations are too stressed
  5. High expectations about one's own success
  6. Using grades to express self-worth
  7. Negative self-talk/Poor self-esteem

Examples

  • Students with "high expectations" or "perfectionists" are likely to  struggle or face  test anxieties. These students continue to place a great deal of pressure on themselves & deal mistakes with difficulty. Such students will quickly be overwhelmed at the time of the test, forcing their brains to freeze or become blank.
  • Students who are not adequately prepared for the test will probably also face test anxiety. This is generally since the student postpones too long or just doesn't comprehend the material. Once the time comes for the exam, that may lead to poor confidence. And if students take a exam they think that they will fail,  and it will eventually lead to that that causing more damage to their confidence.
