The period 200 BC - 200 AD is referred to the mauryan period. Art and architecture during this period was very important in the Indian society as the art work resembled the daily processes of life.

At this period art was in the form of terracotta figurines, toys and rock paintings. Social groups emerged to take charge of the art production as the state and other countries needed splendid specimens of art.

During this time stones and other non perishable were used as mediums of creative expression through art.
