In 1913 br ambedkar organised dalits into the depressed classes association and demanded separate electorate for dalits to which the government conceded.

Gandhiji disagreed to this and went on a fast unto death silly and this would slow down the process of integration of the dalits in to the society

Ambedkar had to give in to the demands of gandhiji and both of them entered into the poona pact of september 1932 gave depressed classes reserved seats in provincial and legislative councils but they were to be voted by general electorate
