Given : Transversal x intersects lines y and z to form 8 angles. The angles formed with line y, clockwise from top left are 1, 5, 6, 2. The angles formed with line z, clockwise from top left are 3, 7, 8, 4.

To Find : Which angle is alternate interior angle of angle 4

Solution:

Properties of angles formed by transversal line  with two parallel lines :

• Corresponding angles are congruent.

• Alternate angles are congruent.  ( Interiors & Exterior  both )

• Interior angles are supplementary. ( adds up to 180°)

Corresponding angles

1 = 3

5 = 7

6 = 8

2 = 4

Alternate interior angles

5 = 4

6 = 3

angle 5 is alternate interior angle of angle 4
