Examine the given defective crystal:
A⁺ B⁻ A⁺ B⁻ A⁺
B⁻ O B⁻ A⁺ B⁻
A⁺ B A⁺ O A⁺
B⁻ A⁺ B⁻ A⁺ B⁻
Answer the following questions:
(i) What type of stoichiometric defect is shown by the crystal?
(ii) How is the density of the crystal affected by this defect?
(iii) What type of ionic substances shows such defect.

1) Schottky defect
2) The positive and negative ion do not differ much in size therefore presence of this defect lowers the density appreciably.
3) This defect is observed in those crystal substances which possess high CN. It arises when highly ionic.
for eg. NaCl, kcl,KBr etc.
