Rallies were organised in different cities. 4) Alarmed by popular upsurge British administration imposed martial law in Amritsar . 5) On 13april in Jallianwala Bagh many people came to protest against rowlatt act in a peaceful assembly and others came to attend the annual Baisakhi fair . 6) Many villagers were from outside the city and were unaware of the imposed martial law . 7) Dyer entered the area , blocked the exit point and open fired upon the crowd killing hundreds of people.
