Ayyavoles and manigramams were trading organizations or guilds that were instrumental for trade in Southeast Asia.

The ayyavoles operated in the temple premises and set up trade links among trading communities in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. They were a group of Swamis who established themselves as traders.

The manigramam group of traders were at the peak during the Chola and Pallava periods in Tamil Nadu. However, their origin traces back to the Kerala coast around the ninth century AD.
