The speaker presides over the meeting of lok Sabha in his or her absence the house is chaired by the deputy speaker.

He maintains discipline and decorum of the house , if the situation demands the speaker can adjourn the house.

All the petitions and documents addressed to the house are received by the speaker.

It is the Lok Sabha speaker who presides over the joint sitting of both the houses of the parliament.

In state the legislative assembly (Vidhan Sabha)

-The presiding officer do the same function like in Lok Sabha.

The vice President of India is ex-officio chairman of the Rajya Sabha .Like the Lok Sabha speaker he or she also preside over the meeting of Rajya Sabha. He conducts its proceeding and maintain the discipline and decorum of the house. since the vice president is not a member of the house he or she cannot vote on any issue where is the lok Sabha speaker can.
