Step-by-step explanation:

X-1=0

X=1

i) p(x) =0

8x4 - 12x3 + 18 x1 +14

=32 - 36 +18 +14

=30

ii) 1x3+ 8x2-7x1-2

=3+16-7-2

=10

Therefore it is not a factor

x - 1 = 0

x = 1

putting values of x in the equations

8 x ^4 - 12 x ^3 + 18 x + 14 = 0

8 (1)^4 - 12 (1)^3 + 18 (1) + 14 = 0

8 - 12 + 18 + 14 = 0

- 4 + 32 = 0

28 is not equal to 0

so 8 x ^4 - 12 x ^3 + 18 x + 14 is not a factor of x - 1.

2 . x ^3 + 8x^2 - 7 x - 2

putiing value of x

(1)^3 + 8(1)^2 - 7(1) - 2 = 0

1 + 8 - 7 -2 = 0

9 - 9 = 0

0=0

so x ^3 + 8x^2 - 7 x - 2 is a factor of x-1
