x^2 - 2x - 8

x^2 - 4x + 2x -8

x(x - 4) + 2(x - 4)

(x + 2)(x - 4)

You can see here that (-2) + 4 = (- b/a) = 2

Also (-2)(4) = (c/a) = -8
