so the equivalent resistance is calculated as follows :-
if the resistors are connected in series
R = R1 + R2 + R3 + R4
= 10 + 10 + 5 + 1
= 26 ohms
if the resistors are connected in parallel
1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + 1/R4
1/R = 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/5 + 1/1
1/R = 1 + 1 + 2 + 10 / 10. [ by taking LCM ]
1/R = 14/10
therefore , R = 10/14 = 0.71
