Given:

Extravagant sons with extravagant fathers (AB) = 450

Miser sons with extravagant fathers (Bα) = 155

Extravagant sons with miser fathers (Aβ) = 175

Miser sons with miser fathers (aß) = 1150

To Find:

Association between extravagance in  father and son

Solution:

Calculating coefficient of association to determine any association between both -

Q = (AB) (αβ) - (Aβ) (Bα) / (AB) (αβ) + (Aβ) (Bα)

Q = (450) ( 1150) - ( 175) ( 155) / (450) ( 1150) + ( 175) ( 155)

= 517500 - 27125 / 517500 + 27125

= 490375/ 544625

= 0.90

Answer: SInce the value is 0.90, this means that there is a very high degree of positive association between both.
