GIVEN:  Volume of beaker = 600cm; Liquid temperature = 0° C; Beaker Heat = 90° C

TO FIND: How much liquid will overflow

SOLUTION:

V1=600cm3

T1=0∘C

T2=90∘C

we have γ=\frac{V2 - V1}{V1 (T2-T1)}

we have γ = \frac{V2 - V1}{V1 ( T2- T1)}

The increase is volume =V2−V1=γV1(T2−T1)

Increase in volume of the beaker.

=γglass×V1(T2−T1)

=2.75×10−5×600×(90−0)

=2.75×10−5×600×90

=148500×10−5cm3

Increase in the volume of breaker =1.485cm3

Increase in the volume of liquid

=γliquid×V1(T2−T1)

=1.75×10−4×600×(90−0)

=1.75×10−4×600×90

=94500×10−4cm3

Increase in the volume of liquid =9.45cm3

The volume of liquid that overflows

=(9.45−1.485)cm3

=7.965cm3

7.965 cm³ liquid will overflow.
