Example 8.7 The brakes applied to a car
produce an acceleration of 6 m sº in
the opposite direction to the motion. If
the car takes 2 s to stop after the
application of brakes, calculate the
distance it travels during this time.

Given,

A=6ms^2

time taken=2 second

Now,

Disttance=S

S=ut+1/2a(t)^2

Initial velocity=u=0

So,

S=0(2)+1/2×6×4

s=0+12

S=12m.

Distance traveled during thiis time by car is 12m
