Example 9: A box is made of wood with its external
dimensions of 50 cm x 24 cm x 12 cm and thicknes
of 2 cm. What is the storage capacity of the wooden
box and how much wood was used to make it?

Answer:

Given that,

length(l)=50cm

breadth(b)=24cm

width or height (h)=12cm

=12-2=10cm

volume of the cuboid=b×h

volume of cuboid=50×24×10

=12000cm³

therefore the capacity of the box=12000cm³

volume of the cuboid=50×24×12

=14400cm³

the wood used for making the box=14400-12000

=2400cm³
