Example 9 The price of a bicycle is 3136 inclusive of tax (under GST) at the rate of 12%
on its listed price. A buyer asks for a discount on the listed price so that after charging
GST, the selling price becomes equal to the listed price. Find the amount of discount

The discount percentage given by seller is 10.7%

Given that the selling price of bicycle is rs 3136

GST percentage is 12%

Let the cost price of the bicycle be x.

GST applied would be 12x/100

Total price of bicycle would be = x+ 12x/100 = 112x/100

Equating the two prices:

112x/100 =  3136

x = 2800

Hence the original listed price of bicycle is rs 2800

After discount the price would be 2800 also

Discounted amount = 3136-2800 = 336

Discount percentage = 336/3136 * 100 = 10.72%
