Acids are substances having a sour taste. The word ‘acid’ comes from a Latin word ‘acere’, which means sour. Acids are corrosive and react with bases to form salt and water. Also, acid turn blue litmus paper red. For example hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulphuric acid (H2SO4) are acids.

Bases are defined as chemical substances which are bitter to taste and soapy to touch. They react with acids to form salts and turn red litmus paper blue. For example sodium hydroxide (NaOH), potassium hydroxide (KOH), magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)2] etc.

Salt is defined as the product formed along with water when an acid reacts with a base. The reaction between an acid and a base forming salt is known as neutralisation reaction. The general equation for the neutralisation reaction is represented as:

Acid + Base → Salt + Water

For example, when sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is treated with hydrochloric acid (HCl), then a salt, sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O) are obtained. The chemical equation for the is given as:

NaOH + HCl → NaCl + H2O

Good question!!

First know about Acids,Bases,and Salts.

#Acids:- The substance which give hydrogen- ion when dissociate in aqueous solution is called an Acids.

Ex:- HCl,HNO3,H2SO4,H3PO4 etc.

*Characteristics of acids:-

1) They give H+ ions when dissociated.

2) They conduct electricity in molten form.

3)They are sour in taste.

4) They convert blue lithmus in to red.

5) They react with bases to form salt and water.

6) 0< pH < 7

*Uses of Acids:-

1) Acid is used in battery , in manufacturing chemicals, dyes.

2) it is used in makings explosives ,T.N.T .

3) Used as Laboratory Reagents.

#Bases:- Those substance which give hydroxyl ion when dissociated in aqueous solution is called bases.

Ex:- NaOH,KOH,LiOH etc.

*Characteristics of Bases:-

1) Bases give OH- when dissociated in water.

2) It also conduct electricity in molten form.

3)It convert red lithmus paper in to blue.

4)Bases are corrosive in nature.

5) pH is greater than 7.

*Uses of bases are:-

1) Bases is used in absorbing CO2(KOH), Manufacture of various chemicals.

2) Used as Reagents in laboratory.

#Salts:- The substance formed by the complete neutralization of an acid and base is called salt.

Ex:- NaCl,KCl,MgCl2 etc.

*Properties of salt:-

1) Salts are netral in nature.

2) It is Soluble or may insoluble in water.

3) They dissociate in to their corresponding cations and anions in water.

*Use of salts:-

1) used as flavouring agent in food.

2)Used as preservatives for pickles.

3) It is raw material for various chemicals industries.

4)It plays vital role in human body in conduction of Nerve impulses etc.
