 \textbf{Expansion- Example is better than percept-}

Practical examples are more helpful in learning something than mere words. Examples appeal to our eyes. What we learn through eyes create deep impressions on our mind. What we hear through ears may be forgotten.

Man by nature imitates. A percept is an order or command. We learn to do a thing by watching someone, especially the preceptors, doing it. An example is better understood than a mere explanation. The example of a good man has more effect on us than good advice.

This proverb is meaningful in teaching, preaching, in moral sphere and other walks of life. A man must practise what he preaches to impress others. Thus an ounce of practical example does more for us than tons of advice in words.

Answer;

The proverb means that it is better to show something in action than merely advising others.You should be an example to others when doing good and should not be a man of mere words.People easily give precept or advice to others about moral conduct but rarely follow the sameWhen a precept is spoken by a person who follows it, we accept it readily

Gandhiji also followed this , and we should also first practise the things that we are going to preach that is same as practice what you preach.
