Hii Friend,

Here your answer....

Ambidentate ligand

A unidentate ligand which can bond through different atoms to form different coordination compounds is called ambidentate ligand.

For example, the nitrate ion NO2- can bind to the central metal atom/ion at either the nitrogen atom or one of the oxygen atoms. The thiocyanate ion, SCN- can bind to the central metal at either the sulfur or the nitrogen.

Hope this helps u ...

Ambidentate ligands are those which can bind to the central atoms through both of the atom.

For example :

 [Cu(CN)4]³⁻ is a coordination compound

Here CN is the ligand, CN can attach to the central metal atom (Cu)  through  Nitrogen  { Cu
⇒NC }   or through carbon {  Cu⇒CN  }

This is possible because here transfer of charge is possible, -ve charge can move between C and N.

Some other examples are:
1.[Ag (CN)₂]⁻        Here  CN is the ambidentate ligand
2.[Co(SCN)₄]²⁻    Here SCN is the ambidentate ligand, it can bond through S  or N
3.[CoCl(NO)(NH)]⁻  Here NO₂ is the ligand, it can bond through N  or oxygen
