hi,
first we have to know the meaning of bio degradable and non-bio degradable polymers.
biodegradable polymers:-
the polymers which can break down by micro organisms or any other environmental factors.
non-biodegradable polymers:-
the polymers which cannot and never break down by micro organisms or other environmental factors.
EXAMPLES OF BIO DEGRADABLE POLYMERS:-
*Polyhydroxy butyrate (PHB)
*Poly-Hydroxybutyrate-co-b-Hydroxy valerate (PHBV)
*Polyglycolic acid (PGA)
*Polylactic acid (PLA)
*Poly (Î-caprolactone) (PCL)
(1):Polyhydroxy butyrate is obtained from hydroxy butyric acid.
(ii) It is copolymer of 3-hydroxy butanoic acid and 3-hydroxy pentanoic acid, in which the monomer units are joined by linkages.
(iii) : Polyglycolic acid is obtained by the chain polymerisation of cyclic dimer of glycolic acid.
(iv) : Polylactic acid is obtained by polymerisation of the cyclic dimer of lactic acid and removal of water by evaporation.
(v) : It is obtained by polymerization of loctrane.
EXAMPLES OF NON BIO DEGRADABLE POLYMERS:-
*linear high-densitypolyethylene(HDPE)
*Branched low-density polyethylene (LDPE)
*Ultra-high molecular weight
polyethylene(UHMWPE)
these are different kinds of polymers which does not decompose by bacteria.
