There are many examples of decomposition reactions. A very common example is the thermal decomposition of calcium carbonate. When calcium carbonated is heated, it decomposes to give calcium oxide (CaO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Following is the chemical equation for the reaction.
Other examples include decomposition of silver chloride and silver bromide in the presence of sunlight.
