hydrogen is used in preparation of solid vanaspati ghee from liquid vegetable fats like groundnut oil coconut oil etc
this process is called catalytic hydrogenation of oil .
it is called so because it takes place in the presence of finely divided nickel or Platinum or Palladium acting as catalyst .
this process occurs at high pressure and at a temperature of about 200 degree Celsius
