Markovnikov's RuleMarkovnikov Rule predicts the regiochemistry of HX addition to unsymmetrically substituted alkenes. The halide component of HX bonds preferentially at the more highly substituted carbon, whereas the hydrogen prefers the carbon which already contains more hydrogens.
