When you go up to 1st floor from ground floor, work done by gravity is nehative as force of gravity is downwards whereas your dusplacement is upwards i.e. opposite to the direction of force of gravity

work done by the gravity when we are picking any object vertically upward is negative because displacement and applied force are in opposite directions.
