Rational number -

A rational number is a number that can be express as the ratio of two integers. A number that cannot be expressed that way is irrational. For example, one third in decimal form is 0.33333333333333 (the threes go on forever).

Irrational number -

In mathematics, the irrational numbers are all the real numbers which are not rational numbers. That is, irrational numbers cannot be expressed as the ratio of two integers

Principal root -

Every nonnegative real number x has a unique nonnegative square root, called the principal square root, which is denoted by √x, where the symbol √ is called the radical sign or radix. For example, the principal square root of 9 is 3, which is denoted by √9 = 3, because 32 = 3 ⋅ 3 = 9 and 3 is nonnegative.
