example 1

when copper oxide is heated with hydrogen,then copper metal and water are formed

Cuo+H2---Heat ------->Cu+H2O

here removal of oxygen : reduction

and ,addition of oxygen :oxydation .

Redox reaction is a reaction where both oxidation and reduction takes place.Oxidation is the gaining of oxygen and loss of electrons,and reduction is the loss of oxygen and the gaining of electrons.
eg.Zn + H2SO4 = ZnSO4 + H2
