Reduction is exactly the opposite of Oxidation .

In oxidation , Oxygen is gained
And loss of hydrogen takes place

Now lets look at the opposite

REDUCTION:-

Removal of oxygen:- The removal of oxygen leads to reduction. This is because loss of high electronegative element reduces the oxidation number which eventually leads to reduction.

Gain of hydrogen:- The gain of hydrogen is also termed as reduction. The gain of hydrogen reduced the oxidation number eventually leading to reduction.




Carbon + 2 molecules of Hydrogen ==== Methane
