Example
Particle of mass 2 kg travelling along x-axis at 10m/s changes its velocity to
10m/s along y-axis in 5 seconds under the influence of a force.
Determine magnitude and direction of change in linear momentum in component
form (i, j)

Answer:

5.06J

Explanation:

Area under the F−t graph gives the change in momentum of the block.

Area A = Area of triangle ABO - Area of triangle DCO

∴ A=21(4)(3)−21(2)(1.5)=4.5 Ns

Initial momentum of the block Pi=0

Using  A=Pf−Pi

⟹ Pf=4.5 Ns

Thus final kinetic energy of the block  Kf=2mPf2

⟹  Kf=2(2)(4.5)2=5.06J

I hope it will helpful to you
