The Water Resources Ministry has divided the entire 2525 km length of Ganga basin into five stretches, coinciding with boundaries of as many states,-Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, through which the river flows, and allocated the portions to the CPSUs for execution of entry-level activities.
And entry-level activities include works such as repair, modernization and provision of public amenities at ghats, treatment of directly discharging drains in villages along the river and repair, renovation and construction of crematoria.
Some points are mentioned below-
Namami Gange Programme- The program has a budget outlay of Rs. 20,000 crore for the next 5 years. Innovative technologies / sewage treatment plants (STPs) / effluent treatment plant (ETPs); rehabilitation and augmentation of existing STPs and immediate short term measures for arresting pollution at exit points on river front to prevent inflow of sewage etc.
