Most of the hoteliers in Kullu and Manali are still unwilling to reopen their hotels for tourists. Budhi Prakash Thakur, convener of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant of Himachal Pradesh, said that a three-tier proposal of SOPs involving the government, travellers and stakeholders had been submitted to the Chief Minister. He added that the government should take the lead in implementing the proposed system of SOPs and should not rush to reopen the tourism sector. The implementation of the proposed system would help in reopening the tourism and hospitality sector by July 15.
Kullu-Manali Hoteliers’ Association president Anup Ram Thakur said that it was not the right time to restart tourism activities, as the graph of Covid cases and related deaths was on the rise in the state. He added that the health and safety measures were not adequate to cope up with any exigency in case the infection spreads.
