A process in which oxygen is added and hydrogen is removed from an element is known as oxidation.and process in which oxygen is removed and hydrogen is added to an element is known as reduction.

Explanation:

Reduction = Copper oxide is being reduced (Cuo) is an oxidising agent

CuO + H 2 -Heat----> Cu + H2O

Oxidation = Hydrogen is being oxidised H2 is the reducing agent
