A compound sentence is one which is made up of two or more co-ordinate clauses.
Examples :-
- He went to the playground
- He played cricket
- He took lunch and went to his home
- The sun rose and we went out for a walk.
- She is lazy but her brother is active
- They got up and played football

It consists of one principal clause and one or more sabcordinate clauses principal clause is independent while the subordinate clause is dependent on the principal clause.
