1.incomplete octet configuration.

2.expanded octet.

3.can't say about geometry of molecule.

Exceptions of octet rule:

Exception 1:  Odd Numbers of Electrons:

  • In octet rule, the first exception if there is an odd number of valence electrons.
  • Not all the molecules will contain an even number valence-shell electrons in which that it forms a molecule.
  • This ends with the atom is not satisfying the octet rule by odd number of valence shell electron.
  • For example of Nitrogen (II) oxide.

Exception 2: Incomplete Octet:

  • The second exception of octet rule is some valence electron result in the incomplete octet.
  • Lewis structure does not produce the valence shell octet to every atom.
  • For example Be, B and Al produce an incomplete octets in the central most atom.

Exception 3: Octet is expanded:

  • The element belongings to group 15,16 and 17  have more than 4 electron. the elements of these groups form a stable compound in which there are more than 8 electrons.
  • Some examples are PF_5  and SF_6.
