Rapid weight gain by itself will not cirrhosis. What causes cirrhosis is an excessive accumulation of glycogen stores in the liver. This can occur when your primary fuel source is alcohol or when you consume excessive amounts of sugars & carbohydrates and end up with a so-called “fatty liver.“
