Modern agriculture is dependent on chemical fertilisers. When used in high doses, these fertilisers not only improve crop production but are also harmful. The excess of these chemicals get washed of by water during irrigation , rainfall and drain into the rivers , lakes and streams.

Thus,

They polute the water ecosystem.

As,

The use of Nitrogen in fertilisers has reached to 300 feet down the ground and poisoned Haryana's groundwater

Therefore,

These chemical fertilisers should be used scientifically when they are needed in small quantities at proper time and doses and judiciously.
