Process of Respiration requires exchange of gases like oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. All Plants show the process of Respiration.

They do not bear distinct respiratory organs like animals. This exchange of gases is required for physiological processes like Photosynthesis and respiration.

This exchange of gases takes place due to phenomenon of diffusion. Diffusion is the movement of molecules or ions of a gas, liquid or solute frok an area of greater concentration to an area of lesser concentration.

All the Living cells or roots, stems and leaves respire day and night. In Higher plants, the respiration takes place through stomata present mainly on leaves.

The older stems exhibit the gaseous exchange through lenticels present on bark. In Lenticels, the cells often project slightly above the outer surface of stem.
