completing the square:
(i) 2x - 7x +3 - 0

d = b² - 4ac

= (-7)² - 4 (2)(3)

= 49 - 24

= 25 > 0

therefore two distinct roots are present.

by completing the square method,

( x + b/2a )² = D / 4a²

x = plus minus 5/ 4 + 7/4

x = 3 or x = 1 / 2
