Compound Nouns are those words where two words of different meanings when joined together give altogether a different work and totally a new meaning.

E.g. Back implies behind

yard implies measurement just like metre.

Whereas when we join backyard, it implies the home backyard which is  the garden close to the kitchen in  a villa where vegetables and fruit plants are planted especially in the Western countries.

(1) backyard = back + yard

(2) grandfather = grand + father

(3) high school = high + school

(4) doorknob = door + knob

(5) racehorse = race + horse

(6) self-control = self + control

(7) lifeguards = life + guards

(8) light-years = light + years

(9) landing-craft = landing + craft

(10) bedroom = bed + room
